ASUS has given us some of the best (and some of the worst) portable computing options around. However, there has been a disturbing trend in the company’s releases as of late: ASUS is bumping up their price tags! This latest release, the ASUS Lamborghini External Hard Drive is no exception.
These drives come in two sizes and either USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 compatibility (though the USB 2.0 models are the only ones currently available). Under the hood there’s either a 500 GB drive or a 700 GB drive. The only other differences are in speed. The USB 3.0 model runs at 7200 RPM in order to handle the increased data feed from USB 3.0 capable computers while the USB 2.0 model spins at a mere 5400 RPM.
So far, these drives are looking fairly standard, right? Nothing exceptional but nothing too disappointing. How about when you consider the USB 2.0 500 GB model comes with a price tag of $120 and the 750 GB model costs $140? Why ASUS chose to price it’s hard drive double what other drives that size cost is beyond reasoning. They can’t possibly think that that flashy plastic exterior is seriously going to get people to drop another $60.
I don’t recommend it but if you want to get your hands on one of these drives, head over to the official ASUS website for more information.
