RIM releases BBM 6 with app integration

Research in Motion (RIM) has announced the Blackberry Messenger 6.0, a significant update that takes one of the smartphone’s most popular apps and turns it from being just an instant messaging app into a social platform for other applications. This spring, RIM showed some of the capabilities of the new BBM at the BlackBerry World, and while it may not cause so much excitement for developers to make BlackBerry apps, it sure will benefit those who do.

The company said that the BBM service has over 45 million users, and it still activates 2 million new accounts each month. RIM said that 70 percent of BBM users use it every day and send more than 100 billion messages per month. This means that BBM is one of the world’s most popular services.

“BBM 6 marks the beginning of an even greater social experience for BlackBerry smartphone users,” said Research in Motion BBM Platform and Integrated Services Vice President Alistair Mitchell. “It also represents an incredible opportunity for developers to leverage the viral nature of the BBM service and we have already begun working with various developer partners who will be bringing their BBM connected apps to BlackBerry App World this week, offering users highly engaging app experiences.”

BBM-integrated applications include Score Mobile, FourSquare, Huffington Post app and Wikitude, along with other apps that can be found in the BlackBerry App World.

The Canadian telecommunication and wireless device manufacturer Research In Motion has introduced its latest offering in smartphones, Blackberry Style 9670. Justifying its name, this clamshell from RIM looks very elegant, whether it is flipped up or down. Blackberry phones are known for their ergonomic QWERTY keypads, and Style 9670 is no exception. Blackberry announced to release a new smartphone namely Blackberry Bold Touch Montana. Blackberry Bold Touch Dakota/Montana has a 2.8 inch touch screen with of 640×480 pixels resolution. It also looks has a compass and motion sensor. While from the previous leaks have known that the Bold Touch will use Snapdragon processor (possibly 1.2 GHz), 512MB RAM, 5MP camera with 720p video recording capabilities. This device has a 6.5GB of storage space remaining.

The Blackberry Bold Touch Montana runs Blackberry 6.1 operating system, wide QWERTY keyboard, Optical Track pad, 5 mega pixels camera with LED and digital zoom and Geo-tagging, 7209 HD video recording, Magnetometer sensor, Accelerometer sensor and Proximity sensor.

Social Platform for BBM Beta Version Ready Downloaded

Research In Motion (RIM) recently announced that the BlackBerry Messenger service (BBM) Social Platform has been available in beta. BlackBerry was first launched at DEVCON 2010, the fuel staying digadang Social Platform will become a successful innovation RIM.

Special fuel is an application platform that allows developers to integrate their applications directly to the fuel using the new API. With this, RIM is open the opportunity for developers to develop more sophisticated apilkasi again. Happy but confused about what would happen later? This is one example. Suppose you are playing multiplayer games while the direct-fuel at the game. When you're done, you can share the game with using the features in BBM Social Platform. So, share your games, or any application later, can be done more easily. In fact, the fuel is Social Platform, developers can also create custom area within the fuel profile, which can be used to demonstrate attainment and game statistics. Interesting is not it?

Now, with the news that the fuel will be made in the version of Android and the iPhone, hopefully RIM will also include this feature.

Blackberry Dakota to save the Day of RIM?

RIM has been in a pinch lately. Their Playbook might be awesome but it’s not out yet. What’s more their smartphone market is dying fast being drowned by swarms of Android phones and mighty iPhones. Now the company is trying hard to revive its smartphone market, and that’s where the Dakota comes in. BlackBerry might be going touchscreen too this time around if this BGR report is true. Yes, it’s awkward to have QWERTY keyboard as well as a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen on the same phone but that’s probably what RIM is doing right now. Spec wise, there is quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE device with tri-band UMTS. It also packs a 5 megapixel cam with HD video recording, 4GB of storage, plus 768MB of RAM. The phone will also have WiFi and be 3G hotspot-enabled, and it’ll run BlackBerry OS 6.1. There’s no mention when this will come out though, despite the phone looking rather neat.
