Archos 80 G9 and 101 G9 Honeycomb Tablets Review Specification and Price

Archos is back with a new press release announcing two powerful tablets: the Archos 80 G9 and Archos 101 G9. Both of these tablets have Android 3.1, both of them have the Android Market inside out of the box, and both have the option to work with a 250GB hard drive.

Both of these tablets are packing the same dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP 4 processors at 1.5 GHz, and both of them have a – yes I love this – kickstand installed on the basic hardware. Both devices will be playing 1080p videos in any of the following formats with an “optional plugin”: AVI, MP4, MOV, 3GP, MPG, PS, TS, VOB, MKV, FLV, RM, RMVB, ASF, and WMV. The displays are thus: 80 G9 with a 1024×768 pixel resolution 4:3 ratio display, the 101 G9 having a 1280×800 pixel resolution 16:10 ratio display. Both devices have HDMI out that’s also capable of outputting 1080p.

Now let’s see the difference: Archos 80 G9 has an 8 inch screen with 1024 x 768 pixels resolution, while Archos 101 G9 bumps that to 1280 x 800 pixels. An HDMI port is responsible for video output to a big screen TV (Full HD is supported) and a USB port can be used to connect peripherals supported by Android 3.1 Honeycomb or the 3G WWAN USB modem sold separately by Archos for just $49.

So it’s clear Archos is trying to get a big slice of the tablet market bringing those competitive tablets, and Android 3.1 Honeycomb together with access to Google Marketplace sure will help a lot, but the biggest surprise comes from pricing: $279 for Archos 80 G9 and $349 for Archos 101 G9. That’s even better than the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer. My only hesitation is the one regarding battery life, as a mechanical hard drive and a 1.5 GHz dual core CPU are bound to consume a lot of power and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Archos G9 tablets manage running times of about 5-6 hours (official figures state 36 hours of audio playback, 7 for video and 10 for Internet browsing). There’s a price to pay for performance and storage.

Anyway, it’s too early to make speculations, so we’ll have to wait util the first reviews will make it to the cloud. Retail availability is scheduled for September.

Vizio 8 Inch Tablet Review

Vizio 8 Inch Tablet Review. - Back in January, among many other tablet-related announcements, we also first heard about Vizio’s plans to enter the (now quite crowded) Android tablet market. The Vizio Tablet come with an 8-inch, 1,024x768 capacitive touch screen and allow people to connect to the Web via Wi-Fi, the company said. The platform will also support Bluetooth. Vizio's tablet will come with built-in GPS and feature 2GB of on-board storage. The device supports up to 32GB of storage through the use of a microSD card.

Last week, reports surfaced that claimed Vizio's tablet would be available at Wal-Mart for $349. However, the company has yet to reveal pricing or availability.

Vizio is more known for its good quality yet inexpensive TV sets. It has now come up with the Vizio Tablet that was initially designed to sync up with its Vizio home theater line to function like a universal remote control. But the Vizio Tablet is an interesting piece of device in itself.

Considering Vizio is best known for its televisions, it's no surprise that the tablet will include an IR blaster and universal remote functionality, allowing people to control their home-theater setup from the device. The platform will also feature a micro-HDMI port for video playback on a big screen, and a front-facing camera for video chatting.

Vizio's upcoming tablet is expected to hit store shelves this summer.

Facebook plan to bypass Apple

Facebook is working on an app platform built entirely in HTML5 and geared for Apple’s built-in iOS web browser, Safari. Sneaky.

Tech Crunch reports that Facebook plans to bypass Apple’s security guards and sneak in through the iOS back door with its own app-based platform. This will be accomplished by publishing an iOS-focused HTML5 platform within Apple’s own Safari browser, the one area in which Apple doesn’t have full control.
Called “Project Spartan” the new platform has already attracted 80 or more app developers including Zynga and the Huffington Post. Unnamed sources claim that Facebook wants to have these apps ready to roll out within the next few weeks for a formal unveiling shortly thereafter, so there’s a good chance the apps may not be fully polished at launch. Developers have reportedly been working on the HTML5 apps for a few months; Facebook began constructing the platform long before the developers signed on.

“Imagine loading up the mobile web version of Facebook and finding a drop-down for a new type of app. Clicking on one of the apps loads it (from whatever server it’s on depending on the app-maker), and immediately a Facebook wrapper is brought in to surround the app,” Tech Crunch said in a hands-on report. “This wrapper will give the app some basic Facebook functionality, as well as the ability to use key Facebook elements — like Credits.”

The goal of “Project Spartan,” it seems, is to get iOS consumers to use Facebook as the distribution model for games and other apps, not Apple’s App Store, Amazon’s Appstore or any other distribution platform. But at the same time, the platform will serve as an outlet for developers to create their games and other apps in HTML5 instead of Flash. We already know what Apple thinks of Flash.

Project Spartan” will also help Facebook push its Credits monetary system out into the mobile sector. Facebook intends to have Credits built-in to alloy developers like Zynga to sell apps and offer in-app purchases. Naturally this system would bypass Apple’s own App Store payment system and 30-percent cut, putting consumer dollars directly into the pockets of Facebook and the associated developer.
But naturally there are pluses and minuses about developing apps in HTML5. Taking Apple’s route means developers have direct access to the device hardware, but in turn they must shell out a yearly membership fee and abide by Apple’s guidelines. Like the initial apps, updates are required to go through an extensive approval process, but users may or may not even download and install those updates. Of course, if said apps were created in HTML5, then updates would be applied automatically. HTML5 apps also aren’t bound to Apple’s guidelines, but they don’t have direct access to iOS hardware.

The Tech Crunch report also states that Android is in the scopes, but for now Apple’s iOS is Facebook’s primary target. A Safari-compatible HTML5 platform means that app developers have a chance to reach out to iOS consumers on the iPod Touch devices, iPhones and iPads without having to endure Apple’s censorship. Does that mean Facebook’s “App Store” will be like Google’s Android Market and play host to malware and adult content? Most definitely not.

We expect to hear more about Facebook’s HTML5 app platform in the coming weeks.

Logitech C615 HD Webcam Review

It has become apparent that HD webcams are the way of the future. If there is one flaw to complain about these new breed of gadgets, it would have to be their bulky size, especially when some of them have video processors integrated into them. Logitech decides that their HD web camera has to be more portable.

The Logitech C615 HD webcam has a design that people might mistake it for a black cobra head. It has an 8-megapixel sensor with auto-focus. Apart from recording high-quality videos with 1,080p resolution, this webcam can be attached on the computer screen and even on a tripod. Meanwhile, its head can spin almost 360 degrees so it can face wherever you want it. The C615 can even adjust its video resolution to 720p if your video chat client cannot handle HD web videos.

The Logitech C615 is now available for $80. This HD webcam is compatible to both Mac and PC, which can be connected via USB.

Nokia Oro Review and Specs

This latest phone is called Nokia Oro and it comes with 3G and WiFi support, 3.5-inch AMOLED display and an 8-megapixel camera that is capable of 720p video recording. As for operating system, Nokia Oro stills comes with Symbian OS, but that’s not the reason why this phone is so special. What makes this phone unique is its looks. Nokia Oro has an exterior plating made from 18-carat gold, sapphire crystal and leather. As you can see, this is quite the expensive phone and only a selected few will be able to afford it.

Nokia Oro is targeted for the Middle East and Russia, but it will be available in various countries throughout Europe, China, and the Middle East in the third quarter of this year. As for the price, we estimate that the starting price will be €800 ($1,126), which is actually not too pricey if you compare it with the likes of the high capacity iPhone 4, but the Oro will come with more bling.

Lenovo S800 Phone with Transparent Screen Color

Lenovo S800 Phone with Transparent Screen Color. Want to have a cell phone that makes people pay attention? Do not hesitate just buy this one because the screen is transparent would make people wonder.

The Lenovo S800 transparent phone is the first to have a transparent color display. Dialog Semiconductor (maker of the S800′s PMOLED IC driver) has comments from it’s CEO Jalal Bagherli saying, “Lenovo has a well founded reputation for implementing cutting edge technologies, and I have no doubt the S800 handset will exceed consumer expectations…”

Certainly transparent displays will become the new “cool” trend for phones. But will the trend last? If you’re one of the first to get your hands on a transparent display phone, expect to turn a few heads!

The S800 debuted last November, and Lenovo has said that it was only a concept phone at the time. No release date has been announced yet. However, it’s clear (no pun intended) that the development of the phone continues to spread among mobile phone enthusiasts.
